If you find it hard to clean up grease in the kitchen, you’re not alone. It can be tricky, but it’s important for keeping the kitchen clean and looking nice.
Grease splatters can easily get on kitchen countertops, walls, cabinets, and backsplashes, whether you’re making a gourmet breakfast or a delicious dinner.
You can get rid of grease in the kitchen without too much trouble if you know a few simple tricks.
Sabrina Fierman, who runs the high-end residential cleaning service New York’s Little Elves, says that it can be very hard to get rid of grease that has built up (opens in new tab). “Ease your work by using the right tools for the job.
“Think about what the surface is made of. Many cleaners will stain or remove the protective coating on marble or wood, or they will scratch other surfaces like lacquer.”
After putting in a lot of work to design a kitchen and find beautiful kitchen ideas, read on to find out how to keep it looking clean and beautiful.
HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN GREASE: BEST WAYS TO MAKE THE SPACE SHINE
Make sure you have the right tools before you start.
Sabrina says you will need a degreaser like Fantastik, 409 All Purpose, or Barkeeper’s Friend, which is safe for most metal surfaces (check the label).
You can also make your own with vinegar, baking soda, and a degreaser made from dish soap (See recipe and instructions below.) Get a clean sponge and a lot of cotton rags as well.
Here is Sabrina’s expert advice on how to clean stoves and walls in the kitchen:
HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN GREASE ON STOVES
The last thing you want to do is cook a meal on a stove that is covered in grease. With these top tips, you’ll be more interested in going back into the kitchen.
1. Take off the handles and grates. Put them in the sink and wash each one separately with warm water and dish soap.
2. Put some cleaner on the stove top and leave it alone for a few minutes.
Sabrina says, “Be careful to stay away from areas with printed markings, as these are easy to rub off with cleaners or rough sponges.” “Most of the time, if you put cleanser on a sponge or rag and clean these areas, that will be enough and won’t hurt the printed areas,” she said.
She also says, “Also, stay away from the burners on gas stoves.” Make sure to only use soft cloths and nothing rough (even baking soda can damage glass top and induction cooktops).
3. Wipe until all the grease is gone after a few minutes. If you need to, do it again and rinse your sponges.
Sabrina says, “Wipe with a clean rag or sponge to get rid of any residue after the grease is gone.”
HOW TO GET GREASE OFF KITCHEN CABINETS AND WALLS
Grease has a strange way of dripping down onto cabinets and splashing on walls. Don’t worry, your kitchen can be made to look as good as new.
Sabrina says, “Whether the walls are made of wood, lacquer, paint, or wallpaper, you must be careful because these surfaces can be easily scratched or peeled off.”
“Before you use any cleaning products on the walls anywhere in the house, we suggest doing a small spot test in a place that won’t be seen.”
The safest thing to do might be to use a mixture of water, mild soap, and white vinegar.
She says, “Use soft, clean rags or a soft sponge to wipe it down.” Depending on how much grease has built up, you may have to do this more than once. Always rinse with a clean, soft, slightly damp sponge or rag and dry well.
How to clean grease off a tiled kitchen backsplash
Grease can easily build up on your tile backsplash ideas over time. Use a degreaser or something natural like orange or lemon oil to solve the problem.
First, you might need a degreasing agent to get rid of any cooking grease and oils that have built up. Don’t forget to follow the instructions that came with the degreasing agent. After that, use a clean, wet cloth and a dry cloth to buff.
Topps Tiles says that you can clean kitchen tiles with vinegar, but you should mix at least half of the vinegar with water because “acid can damage the surface of some tiles.”
Topps Tiles says, “If you have stains that won’t come out, use vinegar, but then wash the tiles with clean water right away to get rid of the acidity.”
The brand says, “Orange or lemon oil is a great natural cleaner and degreaser.” Just put a few drops on the tile and wipe it with a damp cloth or sponge and clean water to get rid of the grease and make your home smell nice.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN DEGREASER TO CLEAN KITCHEN GREASE
If you’d prefer to use a degreaser you’ve made yourself, Sabrina’s recipe can help.
She says, “Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 3 cups of water in a deep bowl. Add 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of dish soap.”
“This solution works best when used straight from the bowl. To apply the degreaser, dip a clean cloth or sponge into the bowl, and then use the soft cloth or sponge to clean the oily surface.”
She adds, “After that, be sure to rinse and wipe the surface again.” Baking soda is rough, so don’t use it on surfaces that could get scratched.
WHAT DISSOLVES GREASE BUILDUP?
You can use a degreaser (like Fantastik or 409 All Purpose) or Barkeeper’s Friend.
You can also use vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap to make your own degreasing solution.
You can also use vinegar that hasn’t been diluted. Just put it in a spray bottle, put it on the dirty surface, let it sit for five to ten minutes, and wipe it off with a dishcloth or a soft sponge.
WHAT IS A GOOD DEGREASER FOR KITCHEN WALLS?
Soap and white vinegar can be used together to clean grease off of kitchen walls in a safe way.
Use a soft sponge to clean, and then dry it well. Do the same thing as many times as you need to.
